The system architecture of uCP is based on the standard ETSI NFV architecture. The main functional components can be deployed as VNFs on the virtual infrastructure and managed by the cloud platform. The system architecture of uCP is shown in the figure below: |
|
Genew UnionCore uCP is developed based on the idea of atom-level convergence, that means, not only the system is disaggregated into different modules, each module is a totally standalone Virtualized Network Function Component (VNFC) that could be deployed in a VM or Container, but also for both 4G and 5G signaling, are dealt within the unified Mobility Management (MM) module and unified Session Management (SM) module. |
Module | Category | Description |
RDB | Memory database | The RDB stores the user context with connections, parameters and states or the Network Function parameters. It is based on Redis DB, Redis DB is an opensource memory database with extraordinary performance and fertile functions. |
OMU | O&M | The OMU is the Operation and Management Unit, provides routine FCAPS maintenance operation. |
SBI | Interface | The SBI deals with the service-based interfaces, especially the HTTP2 layer with load balancing function. |
S1AP | Interface | The S1AP deals with the interface between MME and eNB. |
NGAP | Interface | The NGAP deals with the interface between AMF and gNB. |
MM | Service | The MM deals with the EPS NAS and 5GS NAS messages and also performs as a load balancer for those signaling. |
SPU-MM | Service | The SPU-MM is the service processing unit of MME and AMF, it provides functions of attach/registration, authentication, service request, handover, tracking area update and paging etc. |
N4 | Interface | The N4 deals with the interface between SMF and UPF. |
SM | Service | The SM deals with the EPS NAS SM messages and 5GS NAS SM messages and also performs as a load balancer for those signaling. |
SPU-SM | Service | The SPU-SM is the service processing unit of GW-C and SMF, it provides functions of session management, policy control, QoS management, UE IP management and GW-C/UPF selection etc. |
SPU-NRF | Service | The SPU-NRF is the service processing unit of NRF, it provides the registration and discovery functions for other network functions. |
SPU-NSSF | Service | The SPU-NSSF is the service processing unit of NSSF, it provides the network slice selection function. |
IPU | Service | The IPU is the IP processing unit transmits the signaling and messages with load balance function. |
EMS | O&M | The EMS consists of NEs’ O&M Agents and a Web Server to provide Browser & Server O&M architecture, and it also includes part of MANO’s functions like NFVO and VNFM. Its name is NuMax Cloud. |
